The 400lvl students of economics department paid a visit to the Kaduna Refinery and Petrochemical Company, a tour of the facilities and explanation of the processes and workings of the Refinery facilities. The KRPC fuel plants were designed to process Nigerian crude oils and to process a mixture of light and medium fractions from the domestic and imported crude oilused in the Lubes Plant. Refined products of the plant include; Liquefied Petroleum Gases (LPG), Premium Motors Spirit (PMS), Dual Purpose Kerosene (DPK) for household and aviation usage, Gas Oils, Fuel Oils and Sulphur Flakes.

However, it was revealed during the tour of the facilities that the production capacity of the refinery has been below par for the better part of two decades. The initial plant’s production capacity had an installed refining capacity of 100,000b/d and upgraded to 110,000b/d in 1986, however its production capacity is now below 6% of its initial capacity.
